Latin Jazz

Going back to the roots of the “New Orleans Style” and Early Jazz, Latin rhythms played an important role in the music’s development. As cultures mixed at the turn of the 20th Century, New Orleans had diverse musical influences including African, French, and Latin. Recordings of W.C. Handy and Scott Joplin occasionally had touches of the “Spanish tinge” – elements of Hispanic dance music including the tango and rhumba.
